Welcome to Room 12!

Welcome to Room 12

Primary 5 have settled in to their Room 12 now, and have already filled up the walls with all of their amazing work. The class has been such a lovely place to be, and we have won Best Behaved Class almost every week so far. We have also been incredibly organised when getting ready at break, lunch, and home time, which has helped us to win the Tidy Cloakroom Award twice too! We have our Handy Helper rota, which changes each week, and gives the pupils responsibility for a special task within the classroom. All in all, we are having great fun in Room 12 and looking forward to a great year!

We are all on the Star! :-)

During the first two weeks of term we learned all about the Mosque, including the special features of the Mosque building, and also the prayer rituals that Muslims have when they visit the Mosque. The pupils in Primary 5 created some fantastic Mosque silhouettes and blended colours to create a sunset background.

For the next three weeks of the term we moved on to our science topic, which was Biodiversity. We learned all about the different types of vertebrates and invertebrates which live in the world alongside us, and even conducted our own Minibeast Hunt out in the school grounds one sunny day. We learned about where animals live and what they eat, as well as how they adapt to their environment in order to survive. The class created some amazing drawings of different animals, which show their features and special markings.

We have just started our third topic of the term, Bill's New Frock. This is a story about a boy named Bill, who wakes up one morning to discover that he is a girl. Poor Bill isn't allowed to do all the things he normally likes to do at school, such as play football and read comic books, and he isn't allowed to help move a table either, as it's far too heavy for a girl to lift! We have started discussing male and female stereotypes, looking at careers which seem to be dominated by either men or women, and showing our young people that they can be anything that they want to be when they grow up. We have also looked at the toy industry, and how there seem to be 'boy toys' and 'girl toys' on the market; we are having some very interesting discussions. This topic will take us up to the October break, which is fast approaching!

Finally, we are just about to start preparations for our assembly which is taking place on the last day of term, Friday 10th October. We will be teaming up with the Primary 5 children from Room 13, and presenting our assembly on the theme of Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. Our assembly will include drama, poetry, dance, and singing; we are all very excited!
